Warmer weather often comes with an unwelcome reality check. It’s amazing how quickly cellulite can sneak up on you.
Lifestyle Detox!
While the presence, severity and location of cellulite is largely determined by hormones and genetics. That being said, your lifestyle and diet can make a significant difference in reducing the appearance of cellulite. Here’s how to take action against those nasty lumps.
What is Cellulite All About?
Cellulite is a condition that affects your skin’s appearance, giving it a dimpled, uneven, “cottage cheese” look due to underlying fat deposits. That’s not to say that all fat will look like cellulite.
Cellulite only occurs when your fat cells enlarge and protrude through a layer of collagen. Your skin’s underlying connective tissue will play a huge role in determining whether your underlying fat will have a smooth or rippled appearance.
Cellulite tends to occur primarily in the buttocks and thigh areas, but can also appear on the torso and arms. Even thin people may have cellulite because everyone has subcutaneous fat. As we mentioned earlier, hormones and genetics, and their role on skin elasticity, play a huge role in the appearance of cellulite. This is why cellulite becomes more noticeable as people age and their skin gets thinner and loses pliancy.
Cellulite is more pronounced when the connective tissue that separates fat cells into compartments has a honeycomb appearance. As opposed to horizontal or crisscross patterns, the honeycomb-shape makes fat cells more likely to protrude, creating a cottage-cheese effect. Honeycomb cells are more common in women, and this is the reason cellulite is more common in females. In fact, it’s estimated that 90 per cent of women will struggle with cellulite at some point in their lives.
A Healthy Diet Can Help
Diet has been proven to play a role in the appearance of cellulite. Women who eat too much fat, carbohydrates and salt, and too little fibre, tend to have increased amounts of cellulite.
Supplementing your diet with organic cold-pressed juices can help negate cellulite. Juicing requires almost no digestion, so it works immediately to infuse your cells with live plant enzymes, which can help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Why Collagen is a Must for Smooth Skin
One of the best things you can add to your diet is collagen. Collagen is an essential protein and it is necessary for smooth, supple skin. Hormone changes are one of the biggest contributors to reduced collagen. As women age their estrogen levels start to drop. Estrogen has a negative impact on your blood vessels and circulation. Along with this blood vessel constriction and decreased circulation, comes less oxygen, which decreases collagen production. The less collagen you have, greater the chance for fat to protrude and for cellulite to appear.
Try adding more for collagen-rich foods to your diet. These include:
- Citrus fruits – lemons, grapefruit and oranges are terrific choices!
- Healthy omega-3 fats, such as salmon
- Leafy organic greens
- Berries
- Orange vegetables
- Soy
- Lean proteins
- White Tea
If cellulite is an issue, it’s also a great idea to add a collagen supplement or look for a collagen-enhanced juice. I suggest the Thymeless collagen-boosting juice at Nature’s Emporium. https://www.naturesemporium.com/lifestyle-detox-cold-pressed-juice-program/] The grapefruit base is backed with vitamin C and collagen, and each bottle has an added serving of collagen for a super cellulite-fighting punch.
Move it to Lose it
Since cellulite often develops in areas with low circulation, keeping active is another great way to prevent its appearance. Whether it’s running, swimming or aerobic classes, as long as you keep your blood pumping you’ll be less likely to develop cellulite – even a walk can help.
It’s also important to build muscle through strength workouts that don’t add bulk such as plyometrics. This form of exercise is especially effective because it targets cellulite hot spots – the hips, buttock and thighs. (This is one of the reasons plyometrics have always been a staple in my workouts.) Start with ballistic movements such as jump rope, box jumps, jump squats, and jump lunges.
The Miracle Cellulite Cure
It’s true that there is no “miracle treatment” for cellulite. However, a healthy lifestyle and the right foods can make a significant difference. Follow the above tips and I’m certain you’ll have smoother skin before you need to slip into your swimsuit.
